Chidinma Agwu’s parents taught her that anything worth doing is worth doing well—a lesson she remembered when deciding where to start her nursing career.

With the pursuit of excellence as her goal, she chose Duke Health.

As a research enthusiast, I have always been impressed by Duke's cutting-edge innovations and advancements. Duke consistently tops the charts, with top-of-the-line facilities, expert medical professionals, Magnet designation, and a safe nurse-to-patient ratio.

Choosing Duke has paid off for Chidinma. Since joining in July 2021, she’s quickly climbed the career ladder to become a Clinical Nurse IV in her Cardiology Stepdown unit at Duke University Hospital. In addition to being a charge nurse and a nursing preceptor, she teaches classes in the Heart Center, champions efforts like unit orientation, and serves on the Clinical Practice Council.

In 2023, Chidinma took advantage of Duke’s Certification Bonus to obtain her PCCN, and she continues to grow and develop with support from her leaders.

“My leaders recognize my passion and offer me so many paths to achieve my goals” said Chidinma. “Knowing they’re looking out for me has boosted my confidence and my motivation to excel.”

When she wanted to learn to care for patients with Ventricular Assistive Devices—a training that had only been available to cardiothoracic nurses—her manager worked with Heart Center leadership to admit Chidinma.

“I am immensely grateful to be part of an organization that values its employees and fosters a culture of growth,” says Chidinma. “Duke Health is an excellent choice for anyone seeking a fulfilling career in healthcare. I am excited to see where my career will take me next.
