From a young age, Jeffrey Jude felt a deep connection to healthcare.

“I always knew that I wanted to be a nurse, even from the time I was in elementary school,” he said.

That clarity of purpose was no coincidence—he comes from a long line of nurses, with five aunts and uncles and five cousins all having chosen the same profession. For Jeffrey, it wasn’t just a career; it was a calling and a chance to make a meaningful impact.

“Nursing is a unique balance of science, art, and compassion,” he says of his nursing career that started out in his home state of West Virginia. “There’s something incredibly powerful about being able to offer comfort, healing, and compassion when it’s needed most.”

It was only recently—six months ago—Jeffrey found his way to North Carolina and gave his talents in a new way to healthcare. In his role as a Patient Experience Coordinator, he’s tasked with ensuring patients and their families get the empathy, respect, and personalized attention they deserve throughout their hospital stay.

“I round on patients, listen to their concerns, and advocate for their needs,” Jeffrey explains. “What’s most rewarding is knowing that I have a direct impact on how patients and their families feel during some of the most difficult times in their lives. Each interaction is a chance to create a more personalized and compassionate experience.”

Jeffrey was among the team members that transitioned to Duke when we acquired Duke Health Lake Norman Hospital in April. For him, joining Duke Health marked more than a change in employer—it signified a moment of pride and a renewed sense of purpose.
