Team members have access to comprehensive health insurance that consistently receives the highest possible rating for its coverage and affordability. We offer a choice of medical plan options for full-time or part-time team members and their dependents, administered by Cigna Heathcare.

All plans include pharmacy coverage through Express Scripts.

*Team members must enroll in health benefits within their first 30 days of employment. Premiums are paid on a pre-tax basis. 
 

Duke provides a choice of three comprehensive dental plans for team members that work at least 20 hours per week through Ameritas that include coverage for cleanings, as well as basic, major, and orthodontia services.

Education assistance

At Duke Health, we support your calling to care and grow. Our Employee Tuition Assistance Program provides reimbursement of tuition for up to three classes per semester (limit nine classes per calendar year) up to $5,250 per calendar year for full-time team members with at least six months of continuous full-time service.

Making time for what matters to you, matters to us. 

PTO is accrued to cover time away for holidays, sick time, and vacation. Time accrued is based on years of service and on biweekly or monthly paid status.  

If hired before December 31, 2025
Starting accrual for biweekly paid team members is typically 9.23 hours per pay period (30 days per year).
Starting accrual for monthly paid team members is typically 2.91 days per month (35 days per year).

New hires in good standing can be granted an advance of up to 40 hours of PTO in their first year of employment with Duke Health.

PTO is accrued to cover time away for holidays, sick time, and vacation. Time accrued is based on years of service and on biweekly or monthly paid status.

Starting accrual for biweekly paid team members is typically 7.69 hours per pay period (25 days per year).

In addition to PTO, full-time team members are eligible for three days of bereavement leave for the loss of someone in a direct familial relationship or in the event of pregnancy loss. Bereavement leave may be taken more than once a year if more than one loss occurs.

Following the birth or adoption of a child, Duke provides up to six consecutive weeks of 100% paid leave to eligible parents in a full-time role after completion of one year of service.

At Duke Health, we offer resources to welcome new team members who relocate to North Carolina for a career with us. Our Total Rewards Program offers tiers of relocation assistance for select, eligible roles to help with moving costs, if living 50 or more miles away from a Duke University Health System facility. Team members using the program also get access to a dedicated relocation website that lets them research the area attractions, services, and neighborhoods.

Duke will make a 4% contribution to eligible Duke Health Lake Norman team members after they have attained age 21 and have completed one year of service. Contributions are immediately vested, and you are not required to contribute to receive the Duke contribution.

In addition to the money that you elect to save for retirement Duke will make a contribution of 8.9% of the first $88,650 and 13.2% of annual salary in excess of $88,650, up to the statutory limit of $360,000 to your 403(b) after you have reached age 21 and completed one year of employment, working at least 1,000 hours. You are not required to contribute to receive the Duke contribution. You are fully vested after three years of service.

Biweekly paid team members only
If you are in a position that is paid on a biweekly basis, you will be enrolled in a traditional pension plan designed to provide a guaranteed monthly income at retirement. The Employee's Retirement Plan is paid entirely by Duke. You become a member of the plan if you are age 21 and have completed one year of employment, working at least 1,000 hours. You will be vested after completing five years of continuous service.

Duke provides a survivor benefit in the event of the death of a full-time, eligible team members. The amount is equal to one month’s pay for each year of completed service, up to a maximum of six months of pay. Duke pays the entire cost of this benefit.
