The Department of Medicine in the Duke University School of Medicine in Durham, North Carolina is seeking applicants for the position of Chief of the Division of Infectious Diseases within the Duke Department of Medicine. The Duke Division of Infectious Diseases is a national leader in clinical care, teaching, and research with a faculty and staff of over 153 individuals.

The Chief will lead a large clinical practice both on Duke campus and throughout the community, with 5 general ID and 4 Transplant ID services at Duke University Hospital and 2 general ID services at Duke Regional Hospital. Our faculty also oversee multiple outreach sites throughout North Carolina. The Durham VA Health Care System is formally affiliated with Duke and primarily staffed by physicians who work part time at Duke and part time at the VA.

This position offers an excellent opportunity to lead a vibrant and diverse research program, spanning basic, translational, clinical, and health services research. The Division of Infectious Diseases is one of the top 3 NIH-funded divisions within the Department of Medicine, with 8 basic science research labs, several large multi-disciplinary translational research programs, and a robust clinical trial infrastructure.

Educationally, we offer four first-year fellowship positions annually in our ACGME-accredited fellowship program which offers broad exposure to clinical infectious diseases at Duke University Hospital and the Durham VA Hospital. We offer advanced training programs in Antimicrobial Stewardship, Infection Control/Hospital Epidemiology, HIV, Global Health, and Transplant Infectious Diseases to support diverse trainee interests. Our program alumni have been successful in securing faculty positions at academic centers across the US and around the world.

The Division of ID cultivates relationships and research interests with the Duke Clinical Research Institute, Duke Global Health Institute, Molecular & Genomics Medicine, the Hubert Yeargan Center for Global Health, Duke-National University of Singapore (NUS), and the Center for Infectious Disease Diagnostic Innovations. The ID Faculty also hold a large presence and funding support with the Center for AIDS Research and Dukes Clinical and Translational Science Institute.

Candidates should have a high level of experience in clinical care, education, and research and the ability to provide leadership and direction to advance the key missions of the division and its faculty and staff. A demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment is valued and expected.

Applicants for this position must have an MD degree or equivalent from an accredited College of Medicine, be board-certified in Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases, and be eligible for appointment at the Associate Professor level or higher (tenure track) at Duke University School of Medicine.
