In fiscal year 2021, Duke Regional Hospital admitted 16,422 patients, performed 18,152 surgeries and welcomed 2,673 babies into the world. Occ Summary

Perform moderately skilled work aiding physical therapists,occupational therapists, and speech language pathologists (if applicable) with departmental operating procedures and patienttreatment.


Work Performed

Level IPerform patient related tasks and instruction, in whichemployee has attained competence, as specifica lly designated by thetherapist.Prepare patient and treatment area for ca re, aidtherapist with patient care under direct and/or indirectsupervision.Meet all competency skills for Therapy Aide LevelI.Utilize correct st erile technique when assisting with woundcare and dressing changes.Trans port patients to proper locationaccording to the daily time schedule uti lizing all necessary safetyprecautions in all areas of the hospital asre quested.Transport, transfer, and/or assist patient in and outof wheelcha ir, bed, tilt table, or stretcher safely and without unduediscomfort to patient. Assist in scheduling inpatients andoutpatients as needed.Arrange schedule so patients will arrivein the department for their scheduled visit: delays will be reported tothe therapists no later than the schedu led time of expectedarrival.Assist patients as necessary for transfers, dressingand toileting.Assist in the maintenance, care, and cleaning ofeq uipment and supplies.Demonstrate knowledge of and utilizesgood body mech anics.Understand oxygen procedures in transportof patients.Transport/del iver equipment, records, mail/messagesin a timely manner as requested or according to daily schedule.Manage or assist with control of linen and supply inventory asrequested to include Organize and stock inventory sys tematically andefficiently; check inventory levelson a daily basis or a ccording toarea standard and place as needed, and check orders received foraccuracy and damage.Consistently meet patient care productivitystanda rds for job classification.Work cooperatively with peersto contribute to the overall productivity of the team.Activelysupport and participate in cross coverage efforts in thedepartment/division.Report patient respons es/reactions totreatment.Complete activity logs, safety logs, stamped pa tientattendance information, and other projects as assigned.Postcharges and assist with phone and front office coverage asneeded.Communicate wit h patient and staff in courteous,respectful, and supportive manner.Respo nd promptly to requestsfor assistance in a cooperative and enthusiastic manner.Assistwith orientation and training of volunteers assigned to PT, OT, orSLP.Participate in review of activities and processes for areaof work; assist in implementing changes to effect continual improvementin s ervices provided; and comply with regulatory and legalrequirements.Level II In addition to duties described inLevel I, performs the following:Ai d with and co-treat on morecomplex therapy procedures appropriate for no n-licensed staff,including independent performance of some treatment tec hniques withon-site supervision.Manage custom supply orders, including:d elivery tracking, sending packing slips to procurement, and processingre turns in appropriate and timely manner.Check equipmentroutinely to ensur e proper operation and follows procedures fornotification, repair, repla cement.Consistently meet patientcare productivity standards for job clas sification.Displayflexibility in scheduling.Report patient responses/rea ctions totreatment, document in medical record as appropriate, and ensur eco-documentation and co-signature of supervisingtherapist.Provide on-si te supervision to assignedaides.Organize workload for assigned staff in fair andequitable way.Assist with orientation and training of level Iaid es and volunteers assigned to PT, OT, or SLP.

Levels I and IIBasic computer skills, ability to learn and useDUHS computer system programs.Knowledge and ability to l earn sometherapy principles, techniques, methods and modalities and thei r properapplication.Knowledge and ability to learn some basic skeletalbi omechanics.Knowledge and ability to learn basic functionalanatomy and ph ysiology.Knowledge and ability to properly applyphysical therapy princip les and practices in the rehabilitation ofpatients.Knowledge and ability to apply proper body mechanics andsafety.Knowledge and ability to provi de personal services forpatients and care for equipment and supplies.Abi lity to understand,follow and communicate/relate oral and written instru ctions andpertinent information accurately.Ability to use tact and diplo macyin dealing with patients, staff, and the public.Ability toestablish and maintain effective working relationships with patients,visitors, and other employees.

Minimum Qualifications


Education

Level I Graduation from high school or GED; or an equivalent combination of related education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Level II Bachelor's degree in Exercise Physiology, Exercise Science, or Licensure/Certification as Athletic Trainer or Massage Therapist, or at least three years relevant experience as rehab aide/tech.


Experience

Level I Level II Successful completion of an on-the-job training period, rendering competency in performance of required duties after a specified period of time. One year rehabilitative services experience or equivalent education preferred. Bachelor's degree in Exercise Physiology, Exercise Science, or Licensure/Certification as Athletic Trainer or Massage Therapist, or at least three years relevant experience as rehab aide/tech.


Degrees, Licensures, Certifications

Levels I and II BCLS certification or obtain within first three months of employment.
