Welcome to Duke Health
We look forward to you joining Duke Health, where we work together to bring extraordinary care to the community and patients we serve. In preparation for your career with us, please review these guides to prepare for your new role.
Though each team member’s tasks may differ slightly, some standard tasks include:
When you have an offer:
- Check your email for a message from HireRight, our third-party vendor. Follow the link to complete your background check with HireRight. During this process, you will also be able to submit your licensure and education documents (if applicable).
- You will be contacted by a recruiting coordinator to schedule an appointment with Duke’s Employee Occupational Health & Wellness team to complete tasks that include providing proof of immunity to several communicable diseases and completing a drug screen.
- Provide proof of or receive the influenza vaccine or a Duke approved medical or religious exemption. The COVID-19 vaccination is no longer a requirement for team members, but Duke Health strongly recommends getting up-to-date vaccinations against COVID-19, especially for those with conditions that place them at higher risk.
- Once you have cleared the background check and completed the Employee Health appointment, you will receive an email that your onboarding has been initiated. You will be expected to complete important documents, including your direct deposit information and you will begin your I-9 form.
- You will receive additional email communication from the HR team at your assigned Duke Health location and/or manager on location-specific documents and new hire paperwork.
Suggested Tasks
Tour Duke Health facilities
Ahead of your arrival, take time to familiarize yourself with Duke Health by visiting the facilities in our virtual tour.
Start Virtual TourDay 1 at Duke Health orientation
After the hiring process is completed, you will participate in an orientation program called Day 1 at Duke Health. This interactive virtual experience is designed to immerse you in all things Duke Health — the mission, vision and values, history, key facts, benefits, and networking opportunities with other new Duke Health colleagues. Prior to this afternoon orientation, you will receive a link to access the experience which must be viewed on a computer, not a mobile device.
Orientation learning modules
In addition to the Day 1 at Duke Health orientation, within the first two weeks of your time with us, plan to complete the Duke Health orientation modules via the Learning Management System. This coursework will be automatically assigned to you and will take between 80 and 90 minutes to complete. Please prioritize the benefits module as you must select your benefits within 30 days of employment.
Clinical Education will contact all nursing and nursing support team members for nursing orientation that will occur the remainder of the first week. Additional modules will be assigned based on job duties, including any certifications and trainings.
