Job Summary
We are seeking an Advanced Practice Provider for Duke Urology/Men’s Health of Raleigh. The urology APP will provide medical and surgical care for patients requiring urology services, with an emphasis on men’s health urologic conditions and will perform these services under the direct supervision of the designated supervising physician(s) and/or the designated alternate supervising physician(s). The urology APP will provide clinical care in various medical center settings and will be involved with the care of the patient in any role, which the supervisory physician deems proper and consistent with applicable law, medical center regulations, and delineation of privileges, in combination with the training, knowledge, skills and experience of the urology APP. The urology APP provides care to (14 and older) adult patients. The urology APP will prescribe medications for outpatients, which includes both narcotic and non-narcotic agents used for the treatment of urology patients. These privileges will be in compliance with the regulations of the North Carolina Medical Board or Board of Nursing, federal laws and Duke University Health System.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
Below are listed the basic functions performed by the urology APP. This list is not all-inclusive. All functions are at the discretion of the supervising physician.
- .Evaluates patients in the clinic setting
- Performs History/physical examinations and consultations
- Writes Admission and pre-procedure orders including consultations
- Records/documents progress notes, procedure notes, and brief procedure notes
- Coordinates/communicates patient care with nursing staff
- Participates in patient/family education
- Communicates with referring/consulting house staff and physicians
- Participates in daily patient rounds
- Assists in all areas of clinical and procedural patient care; including but not limited to the following procedures: urodynamic studies, urethral catheter placement/exchange, suprapubic catheter exchange, cystoscopy with and without stent removal, Testopel insertion and posterior tibial nerve stimulation.
- Initiates orders for medications/intravenous fluids
- Initiates/participates in resuscitation of patients (by ACLS standards)
- Participates in determination and communication of discharge plans for patients.
- Dictates discharge summaries/participates in medical chart maintenance
- Participates in follow-up care for discharged patients
Job Eligibility Requirements
Education
- Nurse Practitioners: Work requires completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program, with a Master's degree in Nursing.
- Physician Assistants: Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program. A Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree strongly preferred.
Certification
- BLS required.
License
- Nurse Practitioners: Must have current or compact RN licensure in the state of North Carolina. BLS required. National certification as a NP required prior to or within 6 months of employment.
- Physician Assistants: Must be licensed in the state of NC, and be certified as a Physician Assistant by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
Experience
- 1+ years of APP experience strongly preferred.
