Duke University Health System Seeks Applicants for Chief Medical Officer, Duke Health Integrated Practice

Role Overview:

The physician practice of Duke Health - the Duke Health Integrated Practice (DHIP) - is accepting applications for the position of Chief Medical Officer (CMO). The CMO is a key member of the DHIP Senior Executive Leadership team, engaged in defining the overall business strategy and direction of the organization. The CMO directly oversees the quality of care provided by the ambulatory platform for medical staff and ensures patient safety standards are met.

Reporting to the Senior Vice President of Duke University Health System (DUHS) and head of DHIP, the CMO leads the overall clinical vision and provides direction to 1,900 physicians and their staff at more than 100 sites for all specialty care. Physician executives with leadership experience and strong organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills are encouraged to apply. Expectations:

The CMO provides medical leadership and strategic direction to DHIP to provide the highest quality healthcare in an appropriate, cost-effective manner accessible to all citizens of the community. The CMO will have the responsibility for strategic development as well as implementation and operation of DHIP and its clinics. Associate Chief Medical Officers, Clinical Vice Chairs, DHIP Medical Directors, Access Champions, and Associate Vice President of DHIP Advanced Practice Providers work in collaboration with and are accountable to the CMO.

The CMO is aligned with the DUHS mission, vision, and values, leading with integrity, humility, compassion, and respect for all people. The CMO will work with fellow leaders to create an environment of trust and inclusion, demonstrating the value of diversity. While focused on execution and outcomes, the CMO will develop leaders in the physician practice and throughout the DUHS broader organization.

Qualifications:

  • An MD or DO from an accredited medical school and a Board-certified practicing specialty physician or psychologist.
  • A minimum of 10 years of clinical practice, with at least five years in a leadership role, preferably in an academic medical center.
  • Additional management degree and lean principles training is preferable but not required.
