Job Summary

We are seeking an Advanced Practice Provider to join and support our dynamic and growing Duke Pancreaticobiliary Clinic located in Durham, NC.  This role will involve outpatient in-person and telehealth visits and administrative duties.  Primary hours will be Monday through Friday, day shift, with hours flexible to meet the needs of the patients. 

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Outpatient clinic will focus on evaluation of adult patients referred to the Duke Pancreaticobiliary Clinic.  This will include participating in clinic with an attending, as well as independent in-person and telehealth clinic. 
  • Administrative duties will focus on care coordination for pancreaticobiliary patients.  The APP will work closely with our advanced endoscopy resource nurses, schedulers, and staff assistants for the advanced endoscopy program in coordinating endoscopy and clinic follow up.
  • Record the history of present illness, past medical, family and social history
  • Perform physical examinations
  • Establish and follow plan of care in conjunction with MD
  • Prescribe appropriate medications to a specialty pharmacy that will handle prior authorization and other necessary paperwork; Order refills as needed
  • Patient and family education
  • Order appropriate labs, tests and procedures and follow up with patient as needed
  • Perform procedures such as bedside feeding tube replacements as needed
  • Coordinate care and refer to other medical professionals as needed
  • Document clinic, telephone, and other patient encounters in the Epic (Maestro) system
  • Review lab results in Maestro, communicate and interpret results
  • Collaborate with Advanced Endoscopy Resource Nurses regarding patient triage and return patients calls within 24-48 hours; Provide feedback regarding scheduling of urgent patient appointments
  • Collaborate with nutrition to initiate, modify and write tube feeding orders as needed
  • Review outside records including clinic notes, hospital records, outside radiographs, lab, and other test results
  • Collaborate with nursing staff to complete patient paperwork including medication pre-certifications for insurance companies, durable medical equipment requests, disability paperwork, and handicapped permit applications
  • Attendance at GI Grand Rounds is expected. Participation in other divisional educational events is also encouraged
  • Attendance at Pancreaticobiliary Multidisciplinary Conference once a week on Tuesdays between 7-830am

Job Eligibility Requirements

Education           

  • Nurse Practitioners:  Work requires completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program, with a Master's degree in Nursing.
  • Physician Assistants:  Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program. A Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree strongly preferred.

Certification

  • BLS required.

License

  • Nurse Practitioners:  Must have current or compact RN licensure in the state of North Carolina. BLS required. National certification as a NP required prior to or within 6 months of employment.
  • Physician Assistants:  Must be licensed in the state of NC, and be certified as a Physician Assistant by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.

Experience

  • 1+ year of GI experience strongly preferred.
  • 1+ year of nutrition experience is also preferred

Job Hours

Monday-Friday, day shift, with flexibility to meet clinic needs; administrative time will also be include in this time
