Summary

Duke University Hospital- Adult Cardiac Cath Lab is seeking to hire a CVIS I to the team. The Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist I (CVIS) will utilize professional cardiovascular theory, technology and processes to implement direct patient care on adult patients that require diagnostic or therapeutic procedures within the cardiovascular service. Demonstrates role-specific competence and assists physicians in diagnosing and treating cardiac and peripheral vascular disease and cardiac arrhythmias in the Cath Lab specializing in the care of patients undergoing angioplasty, stent placement, vascular procedures, mechanical support device placement (IABP, non-durable ventricular assist device, etc.). Graduating Students within the required education programs are encouraged to apply. Exciting time to join the Cath Lab team, this position is eligible for the $10,000 commitment bonus, must be new to Duke! 

Work Schedule:  

Days 4-10's, rotating shifts Monday through Friday, with on-Call requirement

Work Performed

Assist the physician during invasive and noninvasive procedures to treat cardiac and peripheral vascular disease and cardiac arrhythmias. Maintain high standards to achieve quality patient care. Communicate continuously with the physician about the patient's condition. May perform any of the following: diagnostic catheterization procedures on adult patients with known and suspected congenital and acquired cardiac and peripheral vascular disease. Interventional procedures which may include any of the following: PTCA, stent prep and placement, IABP placement, peripheral and structural cases.

Procedural requirements: Room preparation, breakdown including but not limited to, radiographic, hemodynamic, and computer setup, stocking rooms and room cleanup. Prepare sterile field appropriately for specified procedure type. Evaluate the status of the patient during the procedure; provide age and gender specific care, prep access site according to lab standard practice, and perform EKG lead placement, blood pressure and pulse oximetry setup for hemodynamic monitoring. Acquire and accurately document pertinent patient data in the electronic health record and enter into hemodynamic and X-ray systems. Operate all physiologic and radiographic equipment safety and correctly. Assess procedure room for equipment functioning and readiness. Obtain supplies for individual cases and ensure all appropriate needs of the Cath Lab team are met. Observe occupational and radiation safety regulations (wearing dosimeter badges, lead aprons, goggles). Educate the patient of procedure expectations before, during and after the procedure including post-procedural limitations and restrictions. Participate in performance improvement activities.

Ability to use fine motor skills. Ability to use sensory and cognitive functions to process and prioritize information, treatment, and follow- up. Ability to use computer and learn new software programs. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Ability communicate effectively with patients, families, visitors, healthcare team, leaders, and others. Ability to withstand prolong standing and walking. Ability to remain focused and organized. Working knowledge of procedures and techniques involved in administering routine and special treatments to patients. Working knowledge of infection control procedures and safety precautions. Working knowledge and completion of appropriate JCAHO and other regulatory requirements. Pre-employment Physical Capacity Testing required

Education

  • A graduate of an associate or baccalaureate academic program in health science (including, but not limited to, cardiovascular technology, ultrasound, radiologic technology or respiratory therapy)
  • Or A graduate of an associate or baccalaureate academic program in an unrelated field along with graduation from a certificate program in cardiovascular technology, ultrasound, radiology technology or respiratory.
  • Students of the following programs: Bachelors of Health Science Degree (Invasive Cardiovascular Technology, Cardiovascular Technology, Radiography or Radiologic Sciences) or Associates Degree (Cardiovascular/Radiologic Technology or Radiography) strongly preferred

Experience

  • No experience required, on the job training with be provided.
  • Cardiac experience preferred
  • Direct patient care strongly preferred
  • Clinical experience in the cardiac Cath lab or interventional radiology preferred

Degrees, Licensures, Certifications

  • RCIS, RCES, ARRT - RTR, ARRT - Radiography (R), ARRT - Cardiac Interventional Radiography (CI) , ARRT - Cardiovascular Interventional Radiography (CV), ARRT - Vascular Interventional Radiography (VI), or IBHRE certification within 36 months of employment.
  • Basic Life Support Certification required.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification required within 6 months of employment (Adult Cath, Adult EP, & Hybrid OR only).

 Duke employees in the CVIS job classification as of January 1, 2016 who were not eligible for certification will be exempt from the certification requirements of the CVIS I. See ladder document for additional information.
